Premium new PHEV means every Transit is electrified

At Ford Pro we’re on a mission to help businesses of all kinds find ways to reduce their costs and become more productive – and part of that is helping them into electrified vans.

Now we’ve revealed our all-new Transit Connect, 1 which for the first time offers an advanced plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option. As a result, customers can now choose a version from every model in our four-strong Transit family that is capable of driving with zero tailpipe emissions.

Our Transit Connect PHEV uses a clever new system that combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine for long-distance ability, a high-voltage battery, and an electric motor for quiet, pure-electric driving in EV Now mode. It’s ideal for operators with depots in business parks or who live in the suburbs, but also operate their vans in low-emission zones and city centres.

Charging is simple. Customers can recharge at 11 kW between shifts using a home charger or a charger at the company depot. 2 If unplanned detours mean a top-up during the day is needed, Transit Connect PHEV can also be fast-charged at up to 50 kW using public chargers.

There’s useful flexibility beyond what’s under the bonnet, too. Many of our customers also use their vans as family transport, or to carry crew as well as hauling kit or cargo. Transit Connect Kombi’s new rear seating design means customers can transform their vehicle from comfy five-seat people mover to spacious van in seconds. With the rear seats up, the long-wheelbase Transit Connect has enough load space for two Euro pallets. 2

For many drivers, their van is also their office, so connectivity and user-friendliness are vital. The new digital cockpit in Transit Connect replaces traditional dials with a 10-inch customisable digital display, and puts connectivity and navigation onto a 10-inch central SYNC touchscreen 3 with features that can also be controlled using voice commands. Wireless phone charging 4 and mirroring 5 mean drivers can contact their next customer without taking their hands off the wheel or dealing with messy USB cables.

We’ve fitted more driver assistance systems to the new Transit Connect than ever before. These include Exit Warning 6 to help avoid “dooring” other road users, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist, 6 which uses a simple control knob and handy screen with guidelines to take the stress and guesswork out of manoeuvring a trailer.

Drivers who often tackle tougher conditions can choose the new all-wheel drive option for more sure-footed performance on slippery surfaces. Both of the 2.0‑litre diesel engine options in Transit Connect are packed with advanced technology to help reduce customers’ costs, and we expect fuel efficiency as low as 4.8 l/100 km. 1

First deliveries of diesel-powered Transit Connect are scheduled for summer 2024, with the PHEV joining the range before the end of the year. All-wheel drive and Transit Connect Kombi complete the full range in early 2025.

1 Officially homologated driving range, fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions will be published closer to on-sale date. In accordance with the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP). Transit Connect PHEV targeted range of 110 km can be achieved with a fully charged battery - depending on the existing series and battery configuration. The actual range may vary due to various factors (e.g. weather conditions, driving style, route profile, vehicle condition, age and condition of the lithium-ion battery).

2 Cargo and load capacity limited by weight and weight distribution.

3 Don’t drive while distracted or while using handheld devices. Use voice-operated systems when possible. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.

4 Available Qi wireless charging may not be compatible with all mobile phones.

5 Requires phone with active data service and compatible software. SYNC 4 does not control 3rd party products while in use. 3rd Parties are solely responsible for their respective functionality.

6
Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver’s attention, judgment and need to control the vehicle. It does not replace safe driving. See Owner’s Manual for details and limitations.
